New Laws in UB

Reading the UB Post this morning and this was the headline. "Proposed Limitations on Free Speech"

Some of the proposed legislation,

- individuals found guilty of defamation of the government on social media will be fined 10 million MNT.

That was the main one. Jean and I, mostly me, have to be careful about the pictures I post and news I share. Which is why we have this page. Other interesting legislation,

- individuals organizing or taking part in a rally without legal permit or changing the purpose of the rally, 150,000 MNT.

- an individual who spits or litters in a public space, 10,000 MNT.

- an individual possessing a knife or other weapon without proper license, 25,000 MNT and weapon seized.

- individual responsible for loud noise in evening in residential area, 100,000.

The editorial states that the bill is vague. It does not define defamation or how it will be regulated. These are only misdemeanors.
