My Use of Idioms

I never realized it before, but I use idioms. Why would I realize it, when everyone around me immediately understands what I'm saying. However, I have been making a list of idioms that I've had to not only explain what they mean, but why I said it. It is difficult to explain when you do not know the origin and when you only think you know the meaning. Then you begin to question why you use it.

Anyway, here is what I've said so far.

"...is for the birds"

"busting my chops"

"calling shotgun"

"waiting for the other shoe to fall"

"it'll put hair on your chest"

"leaving you high and dry"

"ripping their arm off and choking them with it" Okay, not an idiom, but I had to explain myself.
